STARCORE
HISTORY
The Starcore are a group of displaced aliens who have banded together to explore the galaxy and to combat evil
when they find it. Starcore was formed initially from crewmembers of vessels that had been kidnapped and used as
slave labor by space pirates. They were freed by Justice Inc during
that team's involuntary exile into deep space and chose to remain together. Starcore acted as a roving band of
heroes, filling the gaps when other spacefaring groups like the Darkstars or the L.E.G.I.O.N. were unavailable or
uninterested in dealing with a particular threat. Over time other individuals joined the Starcore, seeking to help
serve as a source of hope and justice in the cosmos.
The members of Starcore traveled to Earth after receiving warnings of an emerging cosmic-level threat that
seemed to be tied to the planet. Starcore, along with members of Justice Inc. and the
Enforcers of Justice were drawn into a battle in the
Antimatter Universe and were able to help thwart a plot by the
Qwardians to create a new Anti-Monitor. Afterwards the Justice Inc. member Elemental chose to leave that team and
join Starcore.
MEMBERS
The known members of Starcore are:
ALGERNON
PERSONAL DATA
HISTORY
The alien known as Algernon is from a race of beings that resemble humanoid mice. Algernon was the pilot of
a space freighter that was attacked by space pirates and he was taken prisoner to be used as slave labor. Sometime
later the space pirates also enslaved members of the Earth hero team Justice Inc., but the heroes soon led an
escape attempt that freed themselves and several other of the pirates’ slaves, including Algernon. Algernon and
the other freed slaves stayed alongside Justice Inc. as the heroes sought a way to return to Earth; and also
assisted them in defeating the sorcerer Mordru. When Justice Inc. were finally able to return to Earth, Algernon
and several other of the former pirate slaves decided to stay together. Inspired by Justice Inc. they wanted to
act as a force of justice to help oppressed peoples in the galaxy and so banded together to form Starcore.
Algernon’s actual name in his own language comes across as a series of squeaky sounds to human ears, so Justice
Inc. ally Felicia Albrecht started calling him Algernon due to his
resemblance to the white mice used in Earth lab experiments. Algernon opted to continue using the moniker as it
was easier to pronounce for his Starcore allies than his actual name.
POWERS & WEAPONS
Algernon possesses no superhuman powers, but is an accomplished spacecraft pilot and navigator as well as
mechanic. He serves as the pilot of Starcore’s spaceship and, as one of the founding members, is considered one
of the senior leaders of the group.
AZURE
PERSONAL DATA
HISTORY
Zura is a former Green Lantern and Darkstar who left her homeworld to join the Starcore, seeking to continue
to help others as she had when she had been with the Lanterns and the Darkstars. Zura’s experience was a welcome
addition to Starcore and she was serving with the group when they were drawn into the Anti-Matter Universe. When
Justice Inc. member Azure Star was mortally wounded by Shadow
Nemesinians, he chose Zura as the next wielder of the power. Unlike with Azure Star, the power did not bond with
Zura; instead the power manifested itself as a star-shaped gem at the base of her neck. This is perhaps due to
Zura’s prior experience as a Green Lantern, leading the Azure Star power to more closely emulate a Lantern’s
Power Ring.
Zura continues to serve with Starcore, now using the codename Azure.
POWERS & WEAPONS
The Azure Star power mimics many of the properties of a Green Lantern Power Ring, allowing its wielder to fly
at great speeds, even up to superluminal speeds when in space, project energy blasts, and create constructs out
of its azure energy. The power also protects the wielder, both acting as a force field and providing life support
in hostile environments. Thanks to her experience as a Green Lantern, Zura is an expert at using the Azure Star
power.
In addition to her skill with her powers, Zura is also an experienced galactic law enforcement officer.
STARGATE (II)
PERSONAL DATA
HISTORY
Lam T’Ract, the being known as Stargate, is from a race of energy beings related to the Nemesinian race. His
people and the Nemesinians had participated in the crisis known as Revelations, during which their queen was killed.
Bereft of purpose after his people’s defeat, the alien went out into space seeking a new meaning for his life. He
crossed paths with Starcore and decided that he would join them, gaining new purpose as a force for good in the
galaxy. He adopted the name Stargate, which was the name his former
queen had used when operating on Earth for a brief period.
POWERS & WEAPONS
Stargate is a being of pure energy capable of flying unaided in space and of crossing interstellar distances by
creating space warps called Stargates. He can also absorb large amounts of energy without harming himself and can
project devastating force beams.
V'XAR
PERSONAL DATA
HISTORY
V’xar is one of the founding members of Starcore. He is from a race of aliens that possess great geomagnetic
abilities. An adventurer, V’xar had left his homeworld looking for excitement and found more than he bargained for.
He was hitchhiking aboard a spacecraft that came under attack by space pirates. Despite his formidable powers,
V’xar was not able to fend off the pirates for long and was captured along with the rest of the crew of the ship.
He was part of the group that escaped the space pirates alongside Justice Inc. and stayed with them until they
returned to Earth, after which he and several other escapees chose to form Starcore.
V’xar was the original powerhouse of the team, a role he now shares with Azure and Elemental.
POWERS & WEAPONS
Like most of his people, V’xar has several super powers related to geology and magnetism. He can manipulate
magnetic fields, which allows him to affect any susceptible metal and which he also uses to fly. V’xar can also
manipulate raw minerals, which allows him to shift material in the ground to cause localized earthquake-like effects
or tunnel through the ground. V’xar also has the ability to project blasts of intense heat. Members of V’xar’s race
are also extremely tough and he is no exception, exhibiting superhuman strength and endurance, and he is no
exception.
Though he was often viewed simply as a powerhouse, V’xar is also a trained scientist, an expert in physics and
geology.
ZOID
PERSONAL DATA
- Alter Ego: Zeta Android Unit 27A
HISTORY
Zoid is another founding member of Starcore. His full name, or rather his designation, is Zeta Android Unit 27A,
but his teammates have shortened it to Zoid. Zoid is an android, part of the crew of a spacecraft that had been
attacked by the space pirates. Unlike the other captives who were enslaved, Zoid was treated a loot despite being a
fully independent sentient being. The pirates installed a control collar on Zoid and forced him to serve as one of
their number. Justice Inc. freed him from the control collar and he in turn helped them and several other slaves
escape from the pirates. After Justice Inc. returned home to Earth, Zoid and several of the other escapees decided
to stay together as Starcore.
POWERS & WEAPONS
Zoid was the chief engineer on the spacecraft he was assigned to. He has a superhuman intellect and an innate
talent for invention, skills he uses as the primary engineer and scientist for Starcore. Zoid’s android body
possesses superhuman strength and resistance and is also capable of rapid self-repair in the event of damage. Zoid
also has high-powered laser emitters built into his eyes, which he focus for precision welding and cutting work or
expand into powerful offensive weapons.
