NWO Himalaya Base

The NWO's Himalaya Base was actually located in the eastern end of the Karakoram mountain range. The base was an extensive complex built into a mountain hidden among the other lofty peaks of the region. The base served as the primary mecha construction facility for the New World Order.

Description

The NWO base was a multi-level facility built directly into a mountain in the Karakoram range in Asia. An aircraft landing strip was built near the peak of the mountain, leading to a large aircraft hangar hidden in the mountain itself. Inside the mountain peak, situated above the hangar, was a control tower for the air traffic as well as a communications center. A satellite dish sat atop the mountain acting as a communications link to the NWO's orbital assets, and an RDF MAC II "Monster" Destroid served as the primary defense for the landing strip.

Below the hangar were levels dedicated to Command and Control for the base, followed by the crew quarters and supply warehouses of the base. The lower levels were the location of a massive mecha factory, geared to turning salvaged Zentraedi mecha into the custom battloids of the NWO forces. A mecha hangar adjacent to the storage area for finished mecha served as the deployment area where converted Zentraedi re-entry pods were used to transport the mecha to their target destinations across the globe.

Power for the base was provided by hydro-electic generators fueled by underground rivers deep beneath the mountain.

History

Built in secret over the course of a decade, the NWO Himalaya Base was the primary mecha contruction facility of the New World Order. The factory went online in early 2028, taking over from the prototyping facilities previously established in an old RDF Outpost Base in Indochina.

The factory was discovered in December of 2028 when the 21st ATAC hovertank squadron of the Southern Cross disobeyed orders and teamed up with the 92nd Robotik Battalion of the EBSIS. The discovery of the factory base provided the proof that exposed the existence of the New World Order, ending that group's covert efforts to trick the United Earth Government and the Eastern Bloc Soviet Independent State into going to war with each other. The two mecha teams succeeded in chasing the NWO forces from the base, though not before the majority of the NWO mecha had already been deployed to the NWO's allies across the world. The proximity of the base to Soviet territory meant that the 21st ATAC had no choice but to allow the EBSIS to take possession of the base.

The EBSIS spent the next several years uncovering the secrets of the base before converting the mecha production facilities into ones that could produce Soviet mecha. The factory came online in 2032, after the Southern Cross and United Earth Government had fallen in the wake of the Second Robotech War. The Soviets planned to used the factory to build sufficient mecha to make their efforts to seize control of the Earth an inevitable success. Desperate to prevent this, the surviving United Earth forces dispatched the 21st ATAC "Blackjacks" on a covert mission to take out the factory. Infiltrating the facility in their Veritech Hovertanks the Blackjacks were able to sabotage the base's power generators, flooding the lower levels and rendering the mecha factory inoperable before escaping.
