Who's Who - The Black Legionnaires

The Black Legionnaires are a mercenary team operating in the Indonesia and Indochina Quadrants. The team was formed just after the end of the Malcontent Uprisings by a group of RDF soldiers who decided to go rogue. Initially the Black Legionnaires focused on hunting down rogue Zentraedi, hence their decision to set up shop in Indochina. As time passed economic necessity forced their slow transformation into a mercenary unit for hire. There were plenty of factions in the Indochina and Indonesia Quadrant regions willing to pay top dollar for a team of experienced soldiers, especially former RDF soldiers who kept their Veritechs and Destroids when they went rogue.

By 2028 the Black Legionnaires consisted of about 20 fulltime mecha troops plus around 100 regular troops as well as several dozen support personnel. The Black Legionnaires can often be found in the major trouble spots of the region whenever someone can afford them. The group is now based out of the Sultanate of Brunei, where they help defend the independent nation's valuable resources. New members are always welcome, and the Legionnaires' prices allow for most of its members to live fairly good lifestyles; something that attracts many volunteers. Rogue EBSIS and UEG soldiers are always in demand by the Legionnaires, especially those that can bring their own mecha with them.

The Legionnaires were used as pawns by the NWO during the initial buildup prior to the outbreak of World War IV. Once the war had started, the Legionnaires avoided any direct involvement, concentrating on protecting their home base and hiring themselves out as security and muscle to criminal organizations and pirate groups in Indochina. They continued to operate in much the same manner throughout the Second Robotech War and into its aftermath. Its ranks have increased some with the collapse of the Southern Cross as surviving soldiers in need of a home have signed on with the mercenary unit.
