Southern Cross Who's Who - Stuart "Slammer" Selkirk

Personality

Stuart is a pleasant and well-meaning, if slightly simple individual. His rural upbringing instilled in him strong core moral values, but he tends to act without thinking. The term most likely to be applied to Stuart is Good Old Boy.

Biography

Stuart was born to a farm family in the American Midwest. His family survived the Zentraedi assault and continued to run the farm, and Stuart was tending the crops and driving the tractors from an early age. He grew up with simple tastes; fast cars, good beer and pretty girls. Like any good boy from the country, Stuart enlisted in the military when he was old enough and his years of experience driving heavy machinery on the farm led to him joining the Armored Corps. He proved skilled enough at piloting the giant equipment that he was sent into Veritech hovertank training.

Stuart proved to be a capable tank jockey, though prone to some reckless driving. He was jovial and friendly, but his superiors tended to see him as loud, unsophisticated and boorish. They eventually tired of him but without any real just cause to get rid of Sutart the best they could do was transfer him to the 21st A.T.A.C., a squadron that had garnered a reputation as a dumping ground for unwanted tankers. Under the guidance of Captain Mace of the 21st, Stuart became an even more accomplished mecha pilot, though he was still pretty rough around the edges. It was in the 21st that he earned his call sign of Slammer.

Update: Slammer was killed in action in December of 2028 when he and his tank were vaporized in the nuclear attack on Shanghalla at the outset of World War IV.

Call Sign: Stuart liked speed and always floored the accelerator in whatever vehicle he was in, including his hovertank, with a cry of "slam her down!". In his rural accent, however, "slam her" always came out as "slam 'er", leading to his call sign.
