Southern Cross Who's Who - Damien Ortega

Personality

Damien is a handsome Spaniard and knows it. Clothes just seem to look better on him, no matter what he wears. His passions extend beyond women, he likes excitement in many forms; including gambling and other dangerous pursuits. Everything about him is passionate, both good and bad. His fanatical, forceful and foolhardy mannerisms make him attractive to many, but he is a danger seeker. Damien is also a fairly selfish man and can be hot-tempered, jealous, greedy and deceitful if it serves him. He is very cocky and enjoys competing with the best.

Biography

Damien and his siblings were raised by relatives, as both his parents were busy government officials. He has an older brother, but the main influence on him came from his four sisters. Dealing with so many girls helped him hone his understanding of the fairer sex, but did nothing to dampen his enthusiasm for women. He has had a string of girlfriends over the years, but never anything serious. A popular fellow, he also has several friends, co-workers mostly but also some still around from his childhood.

Damien chose to be assigned to the 21st, and hopes to challenge for the position of squadron ace as quickly as possible.

Update: Ortega proved himself a skilled mecha pilot, an ace even, throughout the Second Robotech War; though he is constantly annoyed by the fact that he can never seem to be as good as the squadron's true ace, Geoff "Punchout" Richards.

The handsome and charming Ortega met his equal in new squad member Julia "Prom Queen" Crenshaw. He initially saw her as just another conquest and she saw him as someone she thought she could manipulate but both were surprised when they began to develop real feelings for each other, possibly because of all the horrors and traumas they were both witness to as the war dragged on. Sadly the relationship ended tragically with Julia's death in the 21st's final battle of the war, a loss that Damien will mourn for some time.

Call Sign: Damien was never given a call sign. The members of the 21st tried to find one that suited him, but in the end decided that "Ortega" said it all.
