Personality
Shanna is generally friendly and energetic, though her fun-loving attitude lends itself to careless and occasionally foolhardy actions on her part. She is an intelligent woman, and is willing to make sacrifices for those she cares about. She is a true daughter of Ireland as well, and can exhibit a strong sense of jealousy at times. Overall Shanna loves to have fun, something that occasionally leads to an excessive indulgence of drinking and merriment.
Biography
Shanna O'Hara's father was one of the chieftains that emerged in Ireland after the First Robotech War. As with all 'noble'children, Shanna was sent to train with the national army. As nobility, she was made an officer at just 18 years old and given command of a company of Irish troops. Completely unprepared for leadership Shanna's company fouled up a training exercise so badly it effectively crippled the kingdom's defenses for several weeks. Not that anyone was planning on invading, but the Malcontent Uprisings had only recently ended and there was always a very small risk of Zentraedi attack.
Shanna was immediately removed from duty and sent back to her father, who had been seriously embarrassed by the incident and his influence suffered greatly. When an assassination attempt was made against her, one that ended up killing her childhood sweetheart, Shanna realized that her actions had greater consequences than she had realized at the time. Knowing her continued presence in Ireland threatened not only her life but the lives of those she cared about, Shanna chose to exile herself instead.
Requesting asylum with a UEG delegation she was taken to Scandinavia, where she joined up with the Southern Cross. Shanna's official record of service in Ireland had been doctored to prevent her embarrassing past from hindering her in the future so she was given the rank of Corporal and assigned command of a Civil Defense squad. Her inexperience with mecha again led Shanna to make a series of mistakes, this time resulting in the loss of several mecha in her squadron (they are somewhere on the bottom of the North Sea now). The truth of her prior mistake came out and Shanna was considered a jinx.
No self-respecting squadron would take Shanna now, even as a junior member. As a final option the Southern Cross command assigned her to a squadron where her past would not matter, the 21st ATAC. Under Captain Mace's wing Shanna has gained a measure of confidence, and has been promoted to Sergeant. Her bad luck seems to have moved from her professional to personal life and she has recently suffered a string of failed relationships and betrayals.
Update: After serving with the 21st throughout World War IV, Banshee was killed in action in March 2030 in combat against EBSIS forces in China Quadrant.
Call Sign: Shanna has a tendency to start singing when she has had too much to drink, or frequently when she hasn't even had a drink. Unfortunately she does not exactly have a talent for the musical arts, hence the call sign Banshee.
