North America - 2028

Estimated Population: ~58,000,000

The populous east and west coasts of North America were both annihilated during the Zentraedi onslaught, as was Alaska (site of a major RDF base), the Far North, and Greenland. All that remained were parched earth and the twisted ruins of the continent's once-great cities. Since the Reconstruction North America has become one of the most technologically advanced and self-reliant regions of the post-holocaust Earth, next to the Far East sector (site of the Robotech Research Facility in Japan). The swift recovery of the region was due mainly to mechanisms set in place during the Global Civil War to ensure the ability to rebuild even in the event of massive destruction. The majority of the continent is generally associated with the United Earth Government and/or Army of the Southern Cross, with a few notable exceptions.

North America Sector

Estimated Population: ~42,000,000

The North America Sector encompasses the majority of what was once Canada and the continental United States. It is for the most part under the sole control of the Army of the Southern Cross. Monument City, site of the headquarters of the Army of the Southern Cross is located in the North America Sector.

Quebec Quadrant

Estimated Population: ~4,500,000

With the breakdown of the UWG in the wake of the First Robotech War, Francophone separatists finally realized their dream of an independent Quebec. Of course, the majority of the industrial and technological base of the region was lost in the Zentraedi assault. Reconstruction was spotty and the bulk of the populace lives in and around the capital of New Quebec City. Recent discoveries of mineral resources has given the Quebec Quadrant much-needed wealth to spur their rebuilding efforts. The Free Nation of Quebec is pacifistic, but strongly independent and does not actively aid or cooperate with the UEG or ASC. They often trade with the York Barony for industrial products, but with their new mineral wealth Quebec has begun making overtures to the Merchant Republic to build up their military defense forces.

York Barony

Estimated Population: ~1,000,000

This self-proclaimed Barony rejected all ties to the UEG and became a haven for humans opposed to the RDF's efforts to integrate the Zentraedi into Earth society. They have a strong manufacturing and military base, but little agriculture resources. In order to feed its populace York used to trade with Quebec, but more recently they have opened trade with the Arkansas Protectorate. Despite the destruction of most of the rogue Zentraedi on Earth and the departure of the loyal Zentraedi forces with the REF, the York Barony remains vehemently opposed to the Unified Earth Government and the Army of the Southern Cross.

Arkansas Protectorate

Estimated Population: ~3,000,000

The Arkansas Protectorate came into being shortly after the end of the First Robotech War. A group of Zentraedi conquered the area but, much to their surprise the conquerors discovered that the humans were willing to accept Zentraedi rule. So long as they were kept safe from other rogue Zentraedi, and from human bandits and raiders, the populace didn't much care who was in charge. When the Malcontent Uprisings began, many of the Zentraedi in the Arkansas Protectorate left to join the Malcontent forces. Near the end of the Uprisings, the nearby York Barony launched an invasion to "liberate" the Protectorate from its alien overlords. The remaining Zentraedi were wiped out and the Arkansas Protectorate turned over to human rulers. Since their military had been Zentraedi, the Protectorate was now dependent on York for defense. Primarily an agricultural center, the Arkansas Protectorate is now the major food source for the York Barony and trades with them almost exclusively for industrial and military goods. The Southern Cross is keeping a close eye on the situation in the Arkansas Protectorate as there is every indication it will merge with the York Barony, forming a powerful political and military entity on the Army's own doorstep.

Mexico Quadrant

Estimated Population: ~7,000,000

The Mexico Quadrant is made up of the old country of Mexico and the remainder of Central America. The area was largely unaffected by the Zentraedi assault and is home to a large population. The reconstruction efforts in this area of the world focused more on modernizing the existing infrastructure than on rebuilding. The overall technological level is about equal to the late-twentieth century United States, just before the Global Civil War. The Mexico Quadrant is a staunch ally of the United Earth Government.

Cuba (Cuban Quadrant)

Estimated Population: ~500,000

Cuba has become a major industrial manufacturing center for North America. It is fairly advanced technologically and is home to several small ASC outposts as well as serving as a port for naval forces patrolling the Atlantic. The Quadrant also includes Haiti, Jamaica, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. The other islands are primarily agricultural centers. The Cuban Quadrant is allied with the United Earth Government and the Southern Cross.
