THE SUPERIORITY
It is unknown if the reality of the Superiority is an actual alternate reality or timeline, or if it was simply a construct created by the strange powers of the being known as Cockroach. By all appearances this reality behaves like a divergence from the mainstream timeline, one that inserts a new group of heroes into history without causing any appreciable difference (at least superficially) beyond the insertion of the new events. It is also not known if the divergent reality remained in existence after the Cockroach's machinations were revealed and the New Enforcers of Justice returned to their normal timelime. The divergent elements are described below.
The Justice Squadron
In 1940 war raged across Europe and the Pacific but the United States remained uninvolved, at least on the front. Amongst the myriad of costumed Mystery-Men appearing across America one hero stood out, his name was Captain Amazing. Following what he called the Periplanetary Americana, Captain Amazing burst onto the scene fighting a host of enemies, most notably Nazi scientist Baron Otto Rienhold von Kiennemann, aka Dr. Diabolical. While many of the other heroes would band together in the Justice Society, Captain Amazing gathered a hand-picked crew around him to form the premiere war-time team, the Justice Squadron. Captain Amazing, the Black Shadow, Gadget Man, Mandrake, American Beauty, and the Minute Man.
Squadron America
After the war, the seemingly unaging Captain Amazing continued to battle in the name of the Periplanetary Americana. When many of his wartime allies retired Captain Amazing formed a new team, the Squadron America. This team; made up of Shooting Star, Radioactive Man, Bombardier, Supersonic, and Justice Squadron member Gadget Man; would continue the fight for the mysterious Periplanetary Americana against such foes as the Red Brigade, and the ever-present Dr. Diabolical, who had escaped the fall of Nazi Germany at the end of the war. Dr. Diabolical now ruled a small South American nation he renamed Diablos and had surrounded himself with a group of mercenaries called R.A.I.D. (Revolutionary Armies Interfering with Democracy). Diabolical and his R.A.I.D.ers struck against the western world, and often went after the Squadron America in an effort to eliminate the Periplanetary Americana.
Though Captain Amazing did not age, most of his teammates did, and they eventually all retired from heroing. To continue the fight, Captain Amazing recruited new heroes into the Squadron America. These were Brilliance, Nightstrike, Silverswift, Chameleon, and the Sky Knight. They continued the fight for the Periplanetary Americana, often against the evil of Dr. Diabolical, whose super-science had given him great powers and made him essentially immortal.
Squadron Superior
After many years the members of the Squadron America went their separate ways, leaving only Captain Amazing still visibly active as the sole representative of the Periplanetary Americana. When the new age of heroes began, Captain Amazing was able to recruit a new team, which he called the Squadron Superior. Originally based out of Superior City, the team later moved to an advanced satellite headquarters. The original members of the team were Captain Amazing, the Gadgeteer, Nightstalker and his side-kick Neon Lad, and Phantom Woman. As the years passed members came and went, with Captain Amazing always being there to represent the Periplanetary Americana. That all ended when Dr. Diabolical unleased his greatest scheme. He destroyed the Squadron Satellite, killing the Gadgeteer in the process and launched an all-out assault on the west coast of America. The beachhead of the attack was Superior City and Diabolical's telepathic virus laid waste to the city's defenders. Captain Amazing, having escaped the destruction of the satellite, joined the fray and in an epic confrontation atop the Royal Acheson Hotel in Superior City the two arch-enemies battled for the last time. The invasion was thwarted , but when the dust had finally settled both Captain Amazing and Dr. Diabolical were dead. But this was not the end of the Periplanetary Americana.
The Superiority
After the death of Captain Amazing, the Luminary assumed command of what remained of the Squadron Superior. With a handful of new allies she has reshaped the team into The Superiority, a team dedicated to the Periplanetary Americana, and willing to take whatever action is necessary to support it. The Superiority have gone on the offensive, taking on anyone and anything that they think will oppose the Periplanetary Americana. As usual, there are those that fear and hate the Periplanetary Americana, but The Superiority are prepared to use any and all means to ensure that it will endure.
The members of the Superiority are:
- Luminary
Luminary is Dawn Adams, a girl born August 6, 1945. She has been coined the spirit of the Atomic Age and has been a hero for several decades (she started her career as a teenager as Brilliance of the Squadron America). She appears not to have aged in the years since her last appearance as Brilliance and when she resurfaced a few years ago as Luminary and joined the Squadron Superior. Luminary has radiation-based powers. - Nightstalker
The mysterious Nightstalker is a founding member of the Squadron Superior. He is an accomplished detective and scientist, and is a master of every known martial art on the planet. Even the most powerful metahumans find it difficult to survive long in a fight with the Nightstalker. - Neon
Neon is the adult Neon Lad. Originally the side-kick of Nightstalker, the brilliantly-clad Neon discovered at age 13 that he was virtually impervious to harm. In the decade since he first donned a costume Neon's powers have only grown, making him a physical match for any foe. - Gadgeteer
The second Gadgeteer is the protégé of the first. When her mentor died, the Gadgeteer donned the advance prototype of the next generation of the Gadgeteer armor and took her teacher's place. - Elementalist
The Elementalist is the lord of the mystic elements: Earth, Air, Fire, and Water. He can command, though persuade is a better term, the elements to do his bidding. By stepping into any of them he can transport himself great distances and it is even said that he can converse with elements as well. - The Adept
The Adept is a student of the mage Mandrake, a member of the Justice Squadron. The Adept soon surpassed his teacher's level of skill and mastered all of the forms of the mystic arts. The last art he mastered was alchemy, and as a result of his efforts he has become the living embodiment of the Philosopher's Stone. - Dart The enigmatic Dart is a mystery to nearly everyone. She is a fierce fighter and seems to possess other abilities as well. The Adept claims she is a fallen angel. Dart herself has no comment.
