QUANTUM

HISTORY

Martin Davis, Sam Goodin, and Treya McKenzie were a trio of teenage science and computer nerds from Superior City and were protege's of renowned, some would say infamous, computer expert Jack Marshall (aka HACKER). The kids would operate under the alias "Quantum" whenever they were online. HACKER and Quantum would later join forces with Mystère of the New Enforcers of Justice to help defend Earth's computer networks when they were threatened by the 853rd Century Hourman Virus. The three teenagers became friends with Mystère and would continue to help her and the Enforcers whenever computer expertise was called for.

When OMEGA digitized the population of Zenith City, trapping them in Cyberspace, the computer system housing the people in a virtual recreation of the city was taken into custody by the Enforcers until they could find a way to free the populace. With the system running the people of Zenith had been left unaware of what had happened to them and believed the virtual reality to be actual reality. To help protect the people of Zenith City, Quantum helped Mystère program a trio of artificial intelligence programs designed to act as super heroes for the city.

The kids of Quantum continued to help monitor the Zenith City simulation and eventually they programmed avatars for themselves that they could operate using special interface equipment. These avatars were also designed as super heroes, adults with various superhuman abilities. When interfaced with the avatars in Zenith City the three operated as a super hero team that they also called Quantum. As a play on the Quantum name the heroes were named Proton (operated by Martin), Electron (operated by Sam), and Neutrino (Martin and Sam argued that it should be Neutron but Treya preferred the sound of the name Neutrino; and someone also pointed out that Neutron was the name of a villain that had faced off against Superman). As Quantum the three patrolled the virutal Zenith City, often alongside the three AI heroes they had programmed.

Eventually Mystère discovered a way to use her techno-magical power to restore the people of Zenith City to the real world. The plan involved linking a virtual techno-magical gate in the Zenith City simulation to another techno-magical gate constructed at the site of the real Zenith City. When joined the gates would open a portal through the various dimensions separating Cyberspace and the real world. Thanks to the Enforcers the gates were successfully linked and the population of Zenith City was transported back to reality. During the rescue operation, however, the villain OMEGA launched an attack against the computer system housing the virtual city while the members of Quantum were still interfaced with their avatars. Unable to log off the three were in danger of having their minds erased when the simulation was destroyed. Desperate, Mystère sent the three through the portal. Once through the trio found themselves in the real Zenith City, except they were still in the super heroic bodies of their avatars that had somehow been made real by the techno-magical portal.

Quickly returning the Superior City, where Quantum's real bodies were still hooked up to the interface equipment linked to the virtual Zenith City, the trio and the Enforcers were able to drive off OMEGA. Almost immediately, however, the three began to weaken. Mystère realized that the three were dying because their life forces were trying to maintain two separate bodies. Working quickly she used techno-magic to create magical amulets for each of the kids. Since each member of Quantum could only have a single body, Mystère used her powers to store the super-hero bodies in the amulets, alleviating the strain on the teens' life forces. With some additional work, Mystère was also able to modify the amulets so the three could switch between their normal and super bodies.

Since gaining their new powers Quantum have begun operating as a super hero team in Superior City, operating alongside the Enforcers of Justice while also continuing to offer their computer expertise.

POWERS & WEAPONS

Each member of Quantum possesses a techno-magical amulet create by Mystère. The amulets are in the shape of the group's logo, a red stylized sine wave, and when activated allows the teenagers to transform into their superhuman forms. The powers of the three in their super hero bodies are:

Quantum's superhuman forms also possess high (but not superhuman) strength, reflexes, and resilience.
