WORLD WITHOUT A RENEGADE
This is an alternate timeline created when Peter Wilde, with help from technology provided
by Aeon, attempted to erase his hated enemy Renegade
by tampering with the body of Renegade's recently murdered "temporal twin" Zodiak.
A result of the scheme is a timeline where instead of the New Enforcers of Justice
emerging to become the heroes of Superior City it is a different hero team that winds
up forming and the recent history of the city and its super heroes is changed.
HISTORY
In the new timeline the events diverge when Death Spider and Aranaea incapacitate most of
Justice Inc. and Death Spider engages his alleged past self,
Tarantula, in single combat. Death Spider knocks Tarantula unconscious and dumps him into the
East River. Without his alternate future self, the man who would become Zodiak, present to save them Tarantula drowns and
Arachnia is tortured and killed. Their bodies are found by Justice Inc. several hours later.
Without Zodiak to save her with his newfound mystic powers, Felicia Albrecht dies at the hands
of a mad Native shaman and Cat's link to the Earth plane vanishes with her. With Cat gone Nemesis
severs all ties he has with the Earth and his former teammates.
Death Spider resurfaces trying to disrupt ArcAngel's wedding to
Paladin. Death Spider escapes but is soon hunted down by the combined teams of Justice Inc.
and a newly reformed Justice Society of America.
ArcAngel rescues an amnesiac Marie Ste. Claire from
Silver Path chevals. They follow the trail of the Silver Path to Superior City
and they destroy the group's operations there. Marie stays in Superior City and starts working with S.T.A.R. Labs to unravel the secrets of her
cybernetics and to try and recover her memories. ArcAngel offers to stay until Marie gets back on her feet. Without the presence of
Renegade and Solitaire, young Alicia "Orchid" Uchida does not meet up with the heroes.
The hero named Flashback arrives in Superior City and enlists ArcAngel's help in finding
his missing teammate and lover, Tazer. Flashback disappears shortly thereafter, at the same time
that Paladin is apparently killed. ArcAngel and Mystère investigate the disappearance
The alien Mercy appears in Superior City but keeps her presence hidden from anyone who might
identify her as being from Nemesis' race.
Knight 2146 appears from the distant future on an errand to find ArcAngel and Paladin. When the futuristic Hourman Virus threatens Cyberspace
the Loa restore Marie's memories and ask for help. Knight 2146 and his advanced A.I. computer Progeny help ArcAngel and Mystère battle
the insidious virus in the global computer system. The Knight then returns to the future.
Ultra-Humanite generates a strange "Globe of Darkness" that encompasses Superior
City and threatens to cover the whole planet. ArcAngel manages to call in her former teammates in Justice Inc. for help before she mysteriously
disappears. Mystère and Justice Inc. are helped by the hero formerly called Patriot who has begun calling himself
Adventurer. They are soon rejoined by ArcAngel and defeat the Ultra-Humanite.
Mindblade, the leader of Justice Inc., suggests forming a west-coast branch of the team based in
Superior City. ArcAngel agrees and Justice Inc. West is created. ArcAngel, Mystère, and Adventurer are soon joined by Mindblade's sister
Sarah, who calls herself by her brother's old code-name of Psi-Shadow, and by Trevor
"Night Flick" Hathaway, who is now powerless and serves as a liaison officer between
the two teams.
Renegade was eventually able to right the timeline with the help of the time-traveling android Hourman from the 853rd century and
the alternate timeline of Justice Inc. West was apparently erased.
JUSTICE INC. WEST
Justice Inc. is a major super-hero team known worldwide. ArcAngel, a former member of Justice Inc. helped form the West Coast branch.
Justice Inc. is well respected in the super-hero and law-enforcement communities and is well-liked amongst the public as well. This holds
true for the West Coast group. There is a friendly rivalry between the two groups, but it never interferes with business. The West Coast
team has access to all the team resources including the AI computer named Pandora, a jet transport that can enter Earth orbit, and a vast
array of contacts and associates in the super-hero and scientific community.
The membership of Justice Inc. West currently consists of:
- Surge (field leader): in this timeline Surge never had to adopt the Ray Chandler identity
or start the detective agency for work. When he joined Justice Inc. they gave him a place to stay in the nice headquarters and some
money for living expenses. Surge still has his original powers, not the newer ability to change into energy. He never went back in time
and so his powers never became unstable, plus the team never went to Central America so he didn't have to absorb a nuclear bomb. The
conspiracy that tried to kill him was exposed thanks to Justice Inc.'s contacts in the government. Surge served as co-leader until
ArcAngel left and he is now the field leader for the team.
- Mystère: Marie works for S.T.A.R. Labs in their cybernetics group. Several of her co-workers know her secret identity but
many do not. Marie still has her original powers, the cybernetic vévés. She was not killed by LaCroix but was instead
rescued by the team fairly quickly.
- Blur: very little is different about Blur, except that he gets along better with the rest
of the team, having not suffered many of the bad things that happened to him in the normal timeline.
- Rebel Yell: like in the normal timeline Rebel Yell arrived in time to battle the
Graveyard Shift. This time however the team was not away in
Otherworld so the villains were easily defeated and Rebel Yell was offered a position
with Justice Inc. West.
- Psi-Shadow: Mindblade's sister.
- G-Force: a young man with gravity and magnetic powers, in the normal
timeline he is a member of the New Adventurers.
- Chrysalis: a woman with growth and shrinking powers, in the normal
timeline she too is a member of the New Adventurers.
The team also has several close associates...
- Trevor Hathaway: used to be the vampire hero Nightflick until he was turned back into a human on one of Justice Inc's adventures.
Now he is the official leader of Justice Inc. West, but he almost never joins the team on missions. In the field Surge is the leader,
while Trevor handles things like public relations and coordination with the other team.
- Flare and the 40 Thieves: a very attractive woman with flame powers. She formed a group of super
powered teenagers and they used their powers to steal from criminals until they were attacked by the
Hellraisers. Justice Inc. saved them and Flare has agreed to to give up crime and now helps
train the kids to become heroes. The training is overseen by Trevor Hathaway and he and Flare have recently become romantically involved.
The team has a public headquarters on the waterfront in downtown Superior City. Its location is well-known but there is a lot of security
around it. A favorite hangout of the team (in costume) is Warriors, sort of combination pub/theme-restaurant with super-hero memorabilia. It
is run by an old man in a wheelchair named Cooper MacBride.
Several other heroes connected with the New Enforcers of Justice in the original timeline have different lives in this one.
- Orchid: she is a hero who fights alongside the power-armored hero
Nightmare.
- Renegade: there is a hero called Renegade who operates in Superior City.
He wears the costume of the Renegade that fought crime in Superior City in the 1940s and he has a sidekick, a teenage girl named
Rocket, and he leads the New Adventurers.
- Digit: the team never went to Otherworld. It was the New Adventurers that went instead so Digit came
back with them and is a member of that team.
- Manticore: the Manticore seems to be a shadow, a mysterious force attacking the criminal
underworld of the city, assuming he exists at all.
