THE NEW SECRET SOCIETY OF SUPER-VILLAINS
HISTORY
The New Secret Society of Super Villains was formed by the Grandmaster
to serve as an enforcement arm for his efforts, naming it for the group that he had allegedly been a part of. Under the
orders of the Grandmaster the villains confronted the newly formed Guardians of
Empire City. Sometime later, when the Guardians were attempting to thwart the plans of the AI
OMEGA, Grandmaster sent his Society to distract
Justice Inc. to prevent OMEGA from using his control of those heroes to set
them against the Guardians.
Darkstorm later took the Society to his home nation of Seyvaria to
help him take control of the country. They again faced off against the Guardians in what turned out to be one of the early
incidents in the Revelations crisis. This version of the Society consisted
of:
- Alchemist: an enemy of the third Flash who had possession of Dr. Alchemy's Philosopher's Stone.
- Charaxes: formerly the Killer Moth, an enemy of Batman, who had sold his soul and been transformed into an
insectoid creature.
- Darkstorm
- FX
- Killer Frost: Louise Lincoln, second cold-powered villain to take the Killer Frost name.
-
- Psycho Pirate: the insane Roger Hayden, possessor of the emotion-manipulating Medusa Mask.
The Ultra-Humanite formed another version of the Society to battle the
New Enforcers of Justice. The only common member with its predecessor
was Darkstorm, with most of the others being allies of the Ultra-Humanite.
- Chain Reaction
- Darkstorm
- Deathbolt
- Shadow Thief: international thief Carl Sands whose suit granted him shadow powers.
- Vulcan: fire-powered villain who had previously faced the Justice Society and Infinity Inc. at the behest of
the Ultra-Humanite.
This incarnation was also assisted by two rogue members of the Dark City
community, Midnight and Mongrel.
DARKSTORM
PERSONAL DATA
- Alter Ego: Derek Stürm
- Base of Operations: Seyvaria
HISTORY
Derek Stürm was a member of the Seyvarian royal family that was exiled when Communist forces took over the country
in the 1950s. With the family fortunes waning, Derek became an international mercenary. His Metagene was activated during
the Dominator Invasion, granting him superhuman strength and resilience
as well as accelerated healing, all of which served him well in his chosen profession.
Stürm was hired by the Grandmaster, who intended the mercenary to be
the field leader of his new Secret Society of Super Villains. The Grandmaster provided Derek with a suit made of the rare
super-chemical known as Mentachem, which granted the mercenary powers to manipulate matter and christened him Darkstorm.
Alongside the Society, Darkstorm faced off against hero teams like the Guardians
and Justice Inc., often being apprehended in the aftermath.
When the Communist government of Seyvaria collapsed and the country fell into civil war, Darkstorm took the Society there
to help him try and seize power in his home nation. The Guardians stopped the Society and turned them over to international
authorities and they were imprisoned. The Ultra-Humanite freed Darkstorm from
prison to lead a new incarnation of the Secret Society, which led him into conflict with the
New Enforcers of Justice.
Escaping capture, Darkstorm eventually returned to Seyvaria, which was still torn by ethnic strife and dealing with a
famine. Stürm took the throne, proclaiming himself king, and is in the process of trying to consolidate power in his
homeland.
POWERS & WEAPONS
Derek Stürm is a trained mercenary, skilled in military tactics and adept in a variety of armed and unarmed combat.
He is also very charismatic with a regal manner that makes him a natural leader. When his Metagene activated Derek gained
superhuman strength, resistance to injury, and an accelerated healing factor.
As Darkstorm, Derek wears a suit made of the metamaterial Mentachem. The suit grants Darkstorm mental domination over any
material in its natural state. This allows him to transport these materials, change their size, and even endow them with a
semblance of life. The Mentachem can also absorb and release pure forms of energy, which Darkstorm has used to project powerful
blasts of heat, electricity and radiation. It is not known where the Grandmaster acquired the Mentachem to create Darkstorm's
suit.
