THE NEGAVERSE
The Antimatter Universe, also called the Negative Universe or the Negaverse for short, is a universe parallel
to our own that is both the similar yet in many ways the exact opposite of this universe. Unlike the regular
universe, the Negaverse is dominated by antimatter, the opposite of regular matter, with antimatter stars and
worlds. In effect the Negaverse is a dark mirror of our universe, with negative versions of familiar stars and
worlds where evil doppelgangers of heroes reign supreme.
It is possible to cross between the Negaverse and the positive matter universe as long as care is taken to
reverse the polarity of anything or anyone crossing over, otherwise the matter and antimatter would annihilate
each other in a massive explosion.
HISTORY
Several billion years ago the renegade Oan Krona attempted to view the beginning of the universe. In the
process, he unwittingly unleashed an entropy wave that devoured several billion years of potential energy from
the universe. There were two results of this: one is that the universe was born "old" and the other
was the creation of the antimatter universe. In this negative universe the world of Qward forms as an evil
counterpart to the positive matter universe's planet Oa. Once these two beings become aware of each other, they
immediately begin to battle and a cataclysmic, simultaneous strike from both sends the two into suspended
animation.
Millennia later the Anti-Monitor awakened and slowly began to consolidate his power on Qward. When he was
ready the Anti-Monitor struck, attempting to destroy his counterpart and absorb the positive matter universe
into the Negaverse. The heroes of Earth banded together and thwarted the Anti-Monitor, saving the positive
matter universe and destroying the Anti-Monitor; an event that was referred to as the
Crisis.
QWARD
The planet Qward sits at the center of the Antimatter Universe, the negative reflection of the world of Oa.
Where Oa has the Guardians of the Universe, Qward has the Weaponers of Qward; where the Guardians have the Green
Lantern Corps, the Weaponers have the Thunderers. The Weaponers of Qward and their Thunderers have battled the
Guardians and the Green Lanterns many times of the millennia, and the Weaponers are responsible for the creation
of the Yellow Power Ring used by the villainous former Green Lantern, Sinestro. When he was active, the
Anti-Monitor was based on Qward.
The Destroyer
The Destroyer was an attempt by the Weaponers to create a new Anti-Monitor. With the help of a group of rogue
Nemesinians the Thunderers had collected the dispersed energies of the Anti-Monitor from across the cosmos and
the Weaponers were prepared to funnel that energy into one of their own. The effort almost succeeded but was
ultimately thwarted by members of the Enforcers of Justice,
Justice Inc., and Starcore;
though the price of victory was the sacrifice of the Nemesinian heroine Mercy.
The NEGA-EARTH
Earth's dark twin is its opposite in every way. The continents are mirror images of the positive matter Earth, people's
hearts are on their right side, and evil reigns supreme. Standing over the Antimatter Earth are the Crime Syndicate of Amerika,
the evil doppelgangers of the heroic Justice League of America.
The Crime Syndicate International
The Crime Syndicate of Amerika inspired many other groups on the Nega-Earth; one of which was informally known as the Crime
Syndicate International. The CSI were once able to reach the positive matter Earth, thanks to an untrained meta with dimension
transport abilities who accidentally opened a portal to the Nega-Earth. They initially posed as heroes and acted as a new
incarnation of the corporate-sponsored super-team The Conglomerate, but their evil natures eventually came through and they
battled the Justice League International before being sent back to the Antimatter universe. The CSI later joined with the
Weaponers of Qward when the latter were attempting to create a new Anti-Monitor. This brought
the Syndicate into conflict with members of Justice Inc. and the
Enforcers of Justice.
The members of the Crime Syndicate International were:
- Frostbite: the evil counterpart to Ice of the Justice League International
- Element Man: the evil counterpart to Metamorpho
- Elasti-Man: the evil counterpart to the Elongated Man
- Scarab: the evil counterpart to the second Blue Beetle (Dan Garrett)
- Deadeye: the evil counterpart to Green Arrow (Oliver Queen); he was killed during the fight with Justice Inc. and
the Enforcers of Justice when Metalmorph accidentally decapitated him
- Slipstream: the evil counterpart to the third Flash (Wally West)
- Fiero: the evil counterpart to Fire of the Justice League International
The NEGA-MOON
Millennia ago a group of evil sorcerers on the Nega-Earth relocated to their world's Moon and set up their own kingdom. While
nations battled each other on the world they had left, these people looked out to the stars and beyond with an urge to conquer.
Eventually a Queen rose to power and led the armies of the Dark Moon Kingdom out to other worlds, and soon to other dimensions.
The Dark Kingdom armies attempted to cross to the positive matter universe, which caught the attention of the
Nemesis Planet. The Queen knew that the armies of Nemesis would oppose her and devised a plan. The
Dark Queen sent her champions to do battle with the Nemesis.
While he was engaged in combat with these beings, her armies swept across the Nemesis planet. The Nemesis was soon
faced with a choice, surrender himself to the Queen's forces or see his people slaughtered by her armies. The Nemesis surrendered
and became her prisoner. With the Nemesis out of the way, the Queen sent her strike force into the positive matter universe. She
was met by a group of powerful warriors that beat back her armies and her war with the positive matter universe reached a
stalemate.
This stalemate lasted until a little over decade ago, when the Anti-Monitor awakened and slowly began to consolidate his power
on Qward. His renewed presence gave strength to the forces of the negative universe and the Queen once again launched her own
attack against the positive matter universe. Her victory was assured except for the
reincarnations of the warriors that had
defeated her millennia before. These forces of good struck back and eventually defeated the Queen in her home plane. The heroes
returned home triumphant, and in the wake of their victory the Nemesis was freed from his millennia-long captivity. He wreaked a
terrible vengeance upon those of his captors who remained in the Queen's palace.
The remnants of the Dark Moon Kingdom were destroyed when the Crime Syndicate of Amerika established their Panopticon
headquarters on the Nega-Moon.
The NEMESIS PLANET
In the wake of the first titanic struggle between the Monitor and Anti-Monitor was born a new world, one of neither positive
nor negative energy. This new world existed as the balance between Oa and Qward, between Positive and Negative, between Good and
Evil; it was Nemesis.
As both the Guardians of Oa and the Weaponers of Qward amassed their forces, so too did a balancing force come to be on
Nemesis, and at the head of this army was the Nemesis. From amongst the nobles of the planet, one was selected to become the
living embodiment of the balance and this noble became the Nemesis, avatar of the balance. Thus was the way of things for many
ages, the armies of both sides waging their battles to further good or evil in their universes, and the armies of Nemesis
intervening only if one side sought to cross the boundary and upset the balance.
Several millennia ago the Queen of the Dark Kingdom on the antimatter Moon planned to
invade the positive matter universe. Knowing that the forces of Nemesis would oppose this, the Queen led her armies in a surprise
attack against the Nemesis planet. Faced with the potential slaughter of his people the current
Nemesis surrendered and was taken back to the Nega-Moon as the Queen's prisoner.
Without their leader, the Nemesinians were not able to intervene in the Dark Kingdom's invasion of the positive matter universe
(the invasion was later thwarted by a group of warriors native to that universe).
The loss of their leader and the personification of the Nemesis power the Nemesinians were directionless. Factional warfare
broke out as different groups sought to become the new leaders of Nemesis. The winning faction did so by allying themselves with
a race of energy-powered beings. As part of their alliance the victorious leaders of Nemesis would marry the leaders of their
new allies. This introduced a new source of power for the Nemesinians, and with their new power they began to seek to reclaim
their purpose and place. Unfortunately without the true Nemesis to provide the instinctive connection to the balance the
Nemesinians began to drift from their original cause.
Once the guardians of the balance between the Matter and Anti-Matter Universes, over the ensuing millennia the people of
Nemesis went from this original purpose to one where they would pass judgment over any world they saw as having become too evil
or too good. As cosmic beings, the coming of the Nemesis would have an effect that preceded their arrival. On planets that the
Nemesis targeted, events would begin occurring that mirrored prophecies of doom or the end of the world on that planet. Most
recently, events on Earth drew the Nemesinians to that world leading to the crisis known as
Revelations.
The heroes of Earth defeated the Nemesinians, preventing them from passing judgement on the planet. Among the heroes was
the true Nemesis, who had been on Earth since escaping from the dungeons of the Dark Kingdom. Now empowered as the
Avatar of Justice, Nemesis took control of his people once more, intent on returning
them to their original purpose. For a short time the Nemesinians were a force for justice in the universe, but unfortunately it
did not last long. The Nemesinians were left leaderless again when the Nemesis was banished from the universe by the Fates for
what they judged was a transgression of his duties as Avatar of Justice.
The people of Nemesis have once again begun to turn against each other. One group of rogue Nemesinians allied with the
Weaponers of Qward to attempt to restore the Anti-Monitor, which they hoped would restore the Nemesis planet to its original
position as the balance between the positive and negative matter universes. This effort was thwarted but did not quell the
unrest on the Nemesis homeworld. In the potential future that the Nemesinian Mercy
came from they were still embroiled in a centuries-long religious war between the Traditionalists (those who believed Nemesis'
return was a hoax, a false prophet sent to test their faith) and the Reformers (who believed that Nemesis was the true voice of
Justice and worship him as such).
