LEGION of DOOM
The Legion of Doom was the name given to a large team of villains that was assembled in 1951, at the very end of the Golden Age era. The villains had been brought together by Brain Wave and the Iron Mask as part of a plan to extort a large sum of money from Superior City. The villains used their vast combined powers to hold the city hostage and to sow chaos to force the city to accede to their evil demands.
In the end the heroic defenders of Superior City, The Adventurers, came out of retirement to take on the threat. They were soon joined by members of the heroic Justice Society who had gotten word of the villains' scheme. With the arrival of these heroic Mystery-Men (and Women) the Legion of Doom played their trump card and caused a wave of volcanic eruptions to occur around the city.
Though it took all of their combined might, the heroes were able to emerge victorious and thwarted the Legion's scheme. Most of the populace of Superior City was saved and the villains were defeated, but the victory had a steep cost. Much of the city center was destroyed and several Adventurers were killed or critically injured, including Atlas, the Red Bee, and Renegade.
Many of the members of the Legion were imprisoned, but several escaped. The full roster of the villains involved was:
