JUSTICE ALLIANCE

HISTORY

The Justice Alliance was a team of international Mystery-Men (and one Woman) that formed in late 1940. The team was the brainchild of a Special Operations Executive agent code-named "Gremlin", who assembled the group from super-powered individuals that had recently appeared in England and Europe. The team remained based in England during the war. They operated in western Europe until the Axis raised the mystical barrier that would shield their territories from Allied superhuman attack. After this the team operated mainly in England and occasionally in North Africa. They resumed operating in Western Europe after the Normandy Invasion in 1944, when the Axis barrier started to weaken. The Justice Alliance disbanded after the end of the War in 1945, its members going their separate ways. Few details of their missions during the War have been found.

CAPTAIN JUSTICE

PERSONAL DATA

HISTORY

A Chicago judge, Lance Owens was nearly killed by mobsters in 1938. Left for dead when his car was shot full of bullets and pushed into the water with Lance inside. Bleeding from the bullet shots and with the car filling with water, Lance was shocked to see a glowing figure approaching him. The figure appeared to be a robed, blindfolded woman carrying a sword and a set of scales. She claimed to be the Spirit of Justice and offered to save Lance if he agreed to be her champion. Lance agreed and found himself on the shore with his wounds healed.

Lance soon discovered that could sense when an injustice had been committed and when confronting the perpetrator he could summon the power of Justice and be transformed into hooded figure with superhuman powers. Once the transgressor had been dealt with and justice had been served, Lance could change back to his normal appearance. Though he did not fully understand, Lance had become the Avatar of Justice. For the next year or so he fought crime in and around Chicago, frequently dealing with the mob and with corrupt city officials, and being dubbed Masked Justice by the newsmedia.

After the start of World War II, Lance was drawn to Europe by the injustices committed by the Nazis. He started calling himself Captain Justice and he was recruited by Gremlin into the Justice Alliance. He continued to battle injustice alongside the team for the remainder of the War. After the war Lance returned to the United States to become a judge again. Lance continued to serve in this capacity until the early 1950s when he was blacklisted for rulings that helped others accused of Communist sympathies. After losing his job, Lance became destitute and vanished a short time later; his final fate is not known.

POWERS & WEAPONS

When he transformed into Captain Justice, Lance possessed superhuman strength and resilience as well as the ability to fly. He also had a mystic sense that alerted him to when an injustice had occurred and allowed him to identify those who were responsible. Captain Justice also carried a judge's gavel which he would use as a weapon to strike opponents. On some occasions he was also seen to be able to project blasts of energy from the gavel that could penetrate a tank's protective armor.

FOO FIGHTER

PERSONAL DATA

HISTORY

A pilot, Janusz Pilecki escaped Poland after it was overrun by Nazi Germany at the start of World War II. Janusz fled to England where he became one of the many Polish pilots to serve in the Royal Air Force. He was shot down over the English Channel during the Battle of Britain, but instead of crashing into the cold waters Janusz awoke to find himself in a strange sterile room being examined by small blue-skinned beings. Janusz broke free of the restraints holding him down and he fought his way past the blue creatures. He stole a strange glowing sphere when it seemed the beings were reluctant to attack him while he held it and made his way to what he hoped was an exit. The door did lead outside, but unfortunately for Janusz he learned he was in an aircraft of some kind and he tumbled out into the night sky over England.

This time when Janusz awoke he found himself in a barn that had been converted into some kind of workshop. The owner of the barn was a man named Sebastian who told Janusz he had found the pilot lying in a small crater in a field, still holding the glowing sphere. Sebastian said the sphere was giving off some kind of strange energy, and Janusz soon discovered that exposure to it, and/or something his captors had done to him, had given him superhuman powers. When he used these powers Janusz would be surrounded with a green aura that enabled him to fly and shoot bolts of green energy. Sebastian revealed he was an engineer and had been working on an advanced suit of flying armor, and had now discovered he could use the sphere Janusz had stolen as an energy source to power his invention. The pair used their newfound abilities to help defend Britain from the Germans. The two were soon recruited into the Justice Alliance by Gremlin, who gave Janusz the codename Foo Fighter, a name given by Allied pilots to the phenomenon that would later be better known as Unidentified Flying Objects or UFOs. Foo Fighter would serve with the Justice Alliance for the remainder of the war.

Janusz returned to Poland after the War. When Communists took control of the country he was arrested and sent to Soviet Union. He was never heard from after this point and is believed to have been killed by Soviet authorities, who were likely experimenting on him in an effort to understand and possibly duplicate his powers.

POWERS & WEAPONS

Whatever had happened to Janusz had given him the ability to envelope himself in a glowing green aura. While the aura was active it acted as a force field, protecting Foo Fighter from attacks, and allowed him to fly and project bolts of a similar green energy. In flight Foo Fighter could easily keep pace with the fastest German fighter aircraft, and his energy blasts could easily shoot enemy aircraft out of the sky. Janusz himself was a veteran fighter pilot, a skill that let him quickly master his newfound ability to fly on his own.

ELIXIR

PERSONAL DATA

HISTORY

A Canadian chemist studying at Cambridge in the early 1940s, James "Jamie" King found Isaac Newton's secret notes on alchemy and used them to develop a collection of potions that granted him superpowers. Inspired by the Mystery Men that had emerged back in the United States, Jamie donned a mask and adopted the Elixir identity to fight crime. After thwarting an attempt to steal British military secrets by a Nazi spy ring, Elixir was recruited into the Justice Alliance. He spent most of his heroic career with the team battling the Axis powers during the rest of the war. After the war, Jamie finished his studies and married his English girlfriend. The two moved back to Canada in the 1950s where Jamie became a university professor.

There is no indication that Jamie ever operated under his Elixir identity or made use of his special potions after he had left England. Several decades later Jamie's research notes were found by a young woman named Kathryn Davis, who adapted his formulas and used them to become the hero Chrysalis.

POWERS & WEAPONS

Using the alchemical knowledge he learned from Isaac Newton's secret papers and his own skill in modern chemistry, Jamie mixed up a series of chemical potions that could temporarily grant an individual superhuman powers. Each mixture granted a different power and consuming another potion before the effects of taking a previous one had worn off would have dangerous, potentially fatal results. As Elixir, Jamie would wait until he knew which power might be effective in a given situation before taking the appropriate potion to grant him that ability. If he needed a new power quickly, he could use a special Nullifier formula that would purge the old potion from his system and enable him to consume a new one in an emergency. An exact catalog of the potions used by Elixir is not known, but he was observed on different occasions as having the power to fly, superhuman strength, superhuman speed, the ability to generate and control fire, the power if invisibility, the power to turn into different animals, and a variety of enhanced sensory abilities. Jamie himself was a skilled chemist.

SPITFIRE

PERSONAL DATA

HISTORY

Eccentric genius engineer Sebastian "Seb" Murray was let go from his job at a British aircraft company due to his radical ideas on propulsion and avionics. Setting out to prove his theories and designs, Sebastian began sneaking around at night to scrounge parts from the wrecks of fighter planes shot down during Battle of Britain. On one of his nocturnal excursions he spotted what looked like a meteor landing in a nearby field. Investigating, Sebastian instead found downed pilot Janusz Pilecki (see Foo Fighter, above) lying in a smoking crater with no sign of the wreckage of a plane. The pilot was unconscious, and clasped tightly in the man's hand was a strange green glowing sphere that was not made of any material that Sebastian had ever seen. Taking the pilot and the strange orb back to the nearby barn he was using as a workshop and, after verifying that the pilot was not injured, set to examining the mysterious sphere. Sebastian discovered that the element the sphere was made of gave of an unknwon form of energy, which proved to be key to powering Seb’s power armor design. Completing the work on his flying suit of armor, Seb took to the skies of Britain as Spitfire. Seb and his pilot friend were both soon recruited into the Justice Alliance and they served with the team for the remainder of World War II.

After the war Sebastian started his own engineering firm that built engines for cars and planes. He disappeared along with the Spitfire armor in the mid-1950s and was rumored to have gone behind the Iron Curtain in an effort to find out what had happened to Foo Fighter.

POWERS & WEAPONS

The Spitfire armored suit had a pair of .50 Browning machineguns as its primary armament. It flew by use of special miniature turbine compressors custom designed by Sebastian and powered by the mysterious alien sphere. The sphere energy also powered a set of super-strong electromagnets that let the Spitfire move metal objects, and hydraulic actuators gave the suit superhuman strength. The suit was made of a special lightweight armor alloy that made it resistant to high-calibre weaponry, a level of protection that could be augmented by an electromagnetic force field.

Sebastian was a genius inventor and engineer. He developed mechanical and electronic systems that were years or decades ahead of their time.
