THE HYPERTIME MASTERS
HISTORY
The Hypertime Masters are a group formed by the enigmatic time traveller Rip Hunter with the goal of patrolling and
protecting Hypertime. Given that the team is made up of experienced time travelers and beings from alternate realities
it is difficult to say when the team was actually formed. In some ways the Hypertime Masters may have always existed.
It is unknown if the team has an actual headquarters, though some rumors have put one at the Vanishing Point at the end
of time and other place it somewhere in Chronopolis, the city out of time. In any case, the arrival of the Hypertime Masters
is usually a signal that something very bad had happened, is happening, or is about to happen that will impact multiple
realities. Given that the combined abilities of the Hypertime Masters encompass the power to travel through, alter, and
manipulate the very fabric of Hypertime indicates the level of threat that would bring them together. Encountering a single
member is usually not significant, but two or more of the Hypertime Masters togeter probably means that there is a threat
to one or more realities.
Rip is always on the lookout for other time travelers that might be an asset to the Hypertime Masters. In one potential
future a version of the time-traveling speedster Flashback is a member of
the team. The present known members of the team are:
RIP HUNTER
PERSONAL DATA
HISTORY
Rip Hunter is one of the world's foremost experts on time travel. He is also something of a mystery. Rip's personal
history seems to be subject to change, possibly due to Rip's own machinations or possibly due to encounters with Rip
being with incarnations of him from different realities.
The Rip Hunter known to many of Earth's present day heroes was a scientist specializing in time travel. Rip and his allies,
known as the Time Masters, frequently aided many heroes. Because of his time travel expertise, Rip often encountered the time
traveling hero Booster Gold. After inventing ways of traveling through time, Rip and the Time Masters came into conflict
with the immortal villain Vandal Savage and his Illuminati. This conflict
spanned across large swathes of history and in the end Rip was left stranded in the prehistoric past. An
attempt by some members of Justice Inc.
to rescue Rip from the past resulted in the creation of an alternate timeline;
and after the damage was undone Rip was again stranded.
Apparently at some point Rip escapes from the past, as he has recently been encountered by some of Earth's heroes. It is
a much older and more experienced Rip Hunter who decided to form the Hypertime Masters, one who has undoubtedly already
seen the future (or several futures) of those who had once been his contemporaries.
POWERS & WEAPONS
Rip Hunter is a genius scientist, gifted inventor, and expert in history and in the science of time travel. He cracked
the secrets of time travel at a relatively early age and his knowledge has only increased. Rip has built several time
travel devices, the most well known of which is the Time Sphere. He also has access to advanced technology from his travels.
Rip often carries a laser pistol from the future as a weapon for defense, and he has also been trained in several martial arts
by experts from across history.
THE PRODIGY
PERSONAL DATA
HISTORY
The Prodigy is Jonathan Kent, the son of Superman and Wonder Woman from a potential alternate future that is
colloquially referred to as "The Kingdom". As a newborn Jonathan was kidnapped by the entity known as
Gog, a superhuman fanatic who had dedicated himself to the destruction of Superman. Gog (with the captive infant
Jonathan in tow) was traveling back through time and killing Superman at multiple points in history, unknowingly
crossing through Hypertime in the process. Jonathan's parents, along with his godfather Batman, were able to
defeat Gog and rescue Jonathan with help from their present day counterparts and other allies.
Already destined to be one of the most powerful beings in creation due to his parentage, Jonathan's journey
through Hypertime as a newborn also had an effect. He was raised by the three greatest heroes of his world
and took their lessons to heart, using his powers for good to protect his world. When he discovered his Hypertime
abilities he expanded that role to the protector of all worlds across all realities.
When Rip Hunter formed the Hypertime Masters, Jonathan was there to offer his services from the very beginning.
POWERS & WEAPONS
As the child of Superman and Wonder Woman, the Prodigy possesses a range of superhuman abilities including all of his
father's Kryptonian powers as well as many of the demigod Amazonian abilities of his mother. In addition to his mighty
powers Jonathan also has a keen intellect and superlative detective skills learned from his godfather Batman.
Beyond his inherited abilities, Jonathan also has the ability to travel through Hypertime at will and his superhuman
senses go beyond those of his father to include the ability to see across different Hypertime streams.
CHRONOS
PERSONAL DATA
- Alter Ego: Walker Gabriel
HISTORY
During his graduate studies, Walker Gabriel acquired the notes of David Clinton, aka the time-traveling super
criminal Chronos. Using what he learned from the notes Walker built his Chrono Suit, which let him move through
frozen time. Walker left school and used the suit to enrich himself by becoming a professional thief. All this
changed when he was hired to steal an experimental tachyon generator. There were complications during the
robbery, including time travel, and Walker eventually had to stop the man who had hired him from using the
tachyon generator to build a weapon. The tachyon generator was destroyed during the confrontation, but in the
process Walker gained the ability to travel through time.
Using his power Walker went on a series of adventures, among them discovery Chronopolis - the city outside of
time. As his powers evolved Walker learned he could manipulate timelines, and many of his manipulations had an
effect on his own timeline. His ultimate act in this regard was to save his mother's life by removing himself
from existence, and act that did not kill Walker but instead made him a man existing outside of time.
Walker's manipulations, and their effects on the timeline and on Hypertime, eventually caught the attention
of Rip Hunter. Hunter proceeded to recruit Walker and show him Hypertime and how Walker's powers interacted
with it. Walker has come to realize the larger effect his time manipulations could have and so had curbed some
of his more extreme actions, but Hunter still has to keep an eye on him.
POWERS & WEAPONS
Originally Walker only had his Chrono Suit, which let him act normally while time was frozen around him.
After the incident with the tachyon generator he was able to travel through time, though initially only
by touching an object and then only to a point in that object's timeline. His power later evolved to allow
to travel through time unrestricted, and with Rip Hunter's help he can now move through Hypertime itself.

PERSONAL DATA
HISTORY
Axel Asher comes from a distant alternate reality. A bit of a drifter, he discovered that he somehow carried a
fragment, or shard, of a cosmic aspect of his universe as well as that being's equivalent from the mainstream
reality. Somehow the aspects had become aware of each other and came into conflict, which put Axel in the middle.
He discovered he could travel between the two realities, and with the help of heroes from both he was able to
restore a balance and end the conflict.
Axel continued to use his powers to occasionally travel between the two realities, at one point even trying
to juggle relationships with women from both realities at the same time. When Rip Hunter learned of Axel he
recruited the young man. Axel has since learned about Hypertime and how he can acquire "shards" from
additional realities. With his abilities Axel is key to helping protect Hypertime.
POWERS & WEAPONS
Axel has a cosmic level awareness that allows him to sense events that threaten multiple realities, so long
as he has acquired a shard for those realities, and also sense when an individual is not native to the reality
they are in. Axel can also open gateways and travel between the realities he possessed shards for. Axel's most
unusual power is the ability to fuse two beings from different realities together into a new single
amalgamated entity, like what can happen when Hypertime streams begin to merge but much more radically.
The new entity possesses a new timeline and possesses powers and abilities that are a unique combination of
those of the two entities that were fused to create it. Axel can split any such amalgamated entity back into
the original entities that were combined to create it.
An unusual aspect of Axel is that most people who encounter him eventually forget about him, until they
encounter him again at which point they will be able to remember any prior encounters. Rip Hunter is beginning
to wonder if Axel is not some kind of living avatar of Hypertime itself.
GIDEON
PERSONAL DATA
- Alter Ego: Unknown
- Known Aliases: Captain Future
HISTORY
In the year 2841 Time Travel technology was perfected to the point where rogue time travelers posed a very real
threat to reality. In response the World Government created the Temporal Police Patrol. Specially trained agents
were sent to time periods deemed most at risk to interference. Their mission was to assimilate themselves into the
time period and prevent any interference in history by rogue time travelers.
During the First Heroic Age (the Twentieth Century) the Temporal Police Field Agents were assigned "super-hero"
identities as their cover. These agents were known as Captain Future (based on sketchy historical records showing there had
been a Captain Future in these time periods). Temporal Police Field Agents were selected based on numerous physical,
intellectual, and psychological requirements. However, there was one instance where the requirements testing failed, with
disastrous results. The Field Agent assigned to be the "Captain Future" for the mid- to late-20th Century
period turned out to be psychologically unstable. Using his time travel technology he gathered a group of villains and warriors
around him and set out on a path of chaos and conquest calling himself Futurion.
Futurion's first task was to return to 2845 AD and wipe out the Temporal Police Patrol. With the aid of his group of
Time Terrors he then began systematically moving through history killing the Field Agents. Only one Agent survived the
massacre, the Captain Future of the 1940s. This Last Agent began a lonely battle through time and space against evil.
With his past forgotten by most he began calling himself simply Gideon, from his Agent ID Number GD-1.
Gideon's focus has typically been on combatting Futurion's schemes. He has chased after Futurion from one end of
time to the other, and has frequently sought out allies from Earth's super hero community. Gideon was especially active
with several heroes during the so-called Forgotten Age of Heroes, most
notably the Crusaders. More recently Gideon has assisted the
New Enforcers of Justice in battling Futurion's current
incarnation as Aeon.
It is unknown when during Gideon's personal timeline he was approached by Rip Hunter to join the Hypertime Masters,
but it appears to have been at some point after the initial encounters with Aeon. His first mission with them was
to help prevent a major disaster that treatened to rewrite all of Hypertime.
POWERS & WEAPONS
Gideon is a trained Temporal Police Field Agent, possessing law enforcement and combat training from the 29th
Century. Gideon is also an expert on Earth history, having studied the 20th Century for his original assignment
and having learned more since adopting his new mission. Field Agents were also highly trained in physics, quantum mechanics,
and engineering so that they could maintain and repair their advanced equipment while on assignment; Gideon has refined
his skill level in these abilities over the years to far beyond that of a regular Agent.
Gideon still possesses his Temporal Police Time Slider, and advanced time travel device from the 29th
Century that he has further customized and improved with additional technology acquired during his adventures. In its natural
state the Time Slider appears a sleek silvery Art Deco aerospace craft the size of a large van or small bus. The interior,
however, contains a folded four-dimensional tesseract, making the Slider much larger on the inside. Besides the flight deck
and control room, the interior contains quarters and living accomodations for a small crew as well as engineering and
science labs that Field Agents could use on assignent. Time Sliders are not equipped with offensive weaponry, though Gideon
has on occassion rigged up some if needed on a mission. For a Time Slider, the best offense is a good defense. The Time Slider
is equipped with advanced 29th Century holographic systems that allow it to camouflage itself or even render itself
invisible. The Slider can also render itself slightly out of phase with local space-time, making it intangible to protect
itself from attacks. As its name indicates, the Time Slider can travel through time and can emulate flight by shifting its
time location in small increments. Since joining the Hypertime Masters, Gideon has modified the Time Slider to be able to
move through Hypertime as well, though this is incredibly taxing on its systems.
Gideon has access to a wide array of technology from across multiple time periods. He tries to anticipate his needs for
a given mission so that he can equip himself accordingly from the vast arsenal he keeps stored in the Time Slider.
