GUARDIENNE

PERSONAL DATA

HISTORY

Little is known of Debbie's background before she started attending university in Empire City. While at university Debbie became best friends with former Olympic gymnast Jackie Sellers, and after Jackie gained super-powers and joined the Guardians as Tazer, Debbie went with her, becoming an unofficial (and often annoying) mascot to the team. At first Debbie and Jackie both lived in the mansion above the team's headquarters but they were eventually tossed out by the owner, Tazer's teammate Rift (who was also super-model Kyle Grant and whom Debbie had a mild crush on). Afterward Debbie and Jackie became roommates and Debbie continued to be an unwanted presence on many of the team's missions. It was only Debbie's almost supernatural luck that kept her from being killed on several occasions.

Shortly after the Revelations crisis, Debbie somehow managed to stow away on a patrol ship of the L.E.G.I.O.N. (Licensed Extra-Governmental Interstellar Operatives Network), a sort of intergalactic police force. Debbie was discovered once the patrol ship reached central L.E.G.I.O.N. headquarters on the planet Cairn and the officers on the craft were about to arrest her when Debbie's luck kicked in yet again. It turns out that Debbie's uncle, Adam, was also the interstellar hero Captain Comet, who also just happened to be the L.E.G.I.O.N.'s commander-in-chief. Not wanting to make the boss angry, the officers brought Debbie to see Captain Comet, who was puzzled, but happy to see little niece after so many years. Comet was about to have a ship take Debbie back to Earth when she announced that she wanted to become a L.E.G.I.O.N. patrol officer. There was little her uncle could do to change her mind so Debbie was entered into the L.E.G.I.O.N. training academy where Captain Comet hoped she would see how difficult the job was and would quit.

The only problem with Captain Comet's plan was that the academy instructors, not wanting to make the boss angry, made sure Debbie passed the academy's exams, always grading her a little (or sometimes a lot) higher on the curve than she would normally have scored. Three years later Debbie graduated the academy and became a L.E.G.I.O.N. officer. Again, Captain Comet had to figure out what to do with her. Eventually he decided to assign Debbie to patrol Earth's solar system, figuring that with all the heroes based on Earth there was little damage Debbie could do. So Debbie was assigned her own starship and sent back to the planet she had left three years ago. Departing Cairn in her new starship Debbie eventually made to Earth, sort of.

On the way back to earth, Debbie piloted her starship a little too close to a black hole. While trying to escape the gravitational pull she wound up send her ship spiraling into a time warp. By the time the ship emerged from the time warp Debbie had no control and barely managed a crash landing on Earth. Actually, she managed to crash the ship right into the Guardians' secret base. In fact, because of the time warp, she had actually managed to crash the ship into the base a mere three weeks after she had stowed away on the L.E.G.I.O.N. ship, even though she had really been gone three years.

Debbie's ship had been almost completely destroyed in the crash but, more by luck than anything, she herself had emerged unscathed. Debbie now faced a dilemma, she had traveled back in time and L.E.G.I.O.N. regulations prohibited interfering in the timeline so she couldn't radio Cairn to let them know what had happened (since she wouldn't actually leave for her mission for another 2½ years), but her mission was to protect the solar system and she couldn't neglect her duties. Since she had no starship any more Debbie figured she would have to settle for protecting the Earth, and since the L.E.G.I.O.N. charted granted her guardianship over her assigned patrol area (even though at this point the Earth was not actually a signatory of the L.E.G.I.O.N. charter) what better place to act as guardian than with the Guardians, and since she was going to be a super-hero she needed a super-hero name, at least a better one than Officer Debbie. And so, before the rest of the team realized what had happened, Guardienne had joined the Guardians. Despite her, well, incompetence (to phrase it politely), Guardienne was a steadfast and reliable member of the team. Again, Debbie's unnatural luck played a major part in her success as a hero. It was Debbie that convinced Grant Emerson (the former New Titan Damage) to join the team under the code-name Shockwave (to hide his identity from the authorities), and it was Debbie and her best friend Tazer who were able to defeat the powerful villain Enforcer, and she also played a major role in the team's defeat of Lucifer's Six.

When Shockwave, whom Debbie had become romantically involved with, disappeared after the team's battle with the Millennium Giant Sekhmet, Guardienne left the team to search for him. Several months later, after being reunited with Jackie and her lover, and fellow Guardian, Flashback, Debbie discovered that Grant had survived the battle but had joined the newest incarnation of the Titans. Broken-hearted that Grant hadn't let her know he was still alive, despite the fact that she and the others had been in the extra-dimensional land of Skartaris so even if he had tried there was no way Damage could have contacted her, Debbie didn't even bother to speak with him. It was at this point that Guardienne, Tazer, and Flashback were approached by the mysterious Harbinger to re-form the Guardians. Since rejoining the team, Debbie has managed to get over Shockwave and has begun to take an interest in her new teammate, Torch.

POWERS & WEAPONS

Guardienne possesses no actual powers unless one counts her uncanny luck, which many people say is supernatural, and her odd ability to see through illusion and deception (perhaps by being too vacuous to notice). Debbie has received L.E.G.I.O.N. training so she is knowledgeable in the use of L.E.G.I.O.N.-issue weaponry and can pilot most modern, sophisticated air, land, and space-craft including L.E.G.I.O.N.-issue vehicles. However, when confronted with a piece of technology she has not used before, Debbie's luck seems to work in reverse and she often damages the equipment, sometimes beyond repair. Debbie is actually an accomplished detective, aided again by her luck which seems to let her pick up clues and piece together even spotty information that let her solve difficult problems. As part of her standard issue L.E.G.I.O.N. equipment Debbie carries a stun blaster and wears a suit of protective armor which contains a universal translator and advanced radio communications gear.

Debbie also possesses a L.E.G.I.O.N. Omni-cube, a device used to access a miniature tesseract that contains additional equipment a L.E.G.I.O.N. officer might require on a mission. No one knows exactly what is stored in the Omni-cube, probably not even Debbie, but she has been seen to pull out an advanced first-aid kit, sophisticated tracking gear, a magnetic attractor/repulsor gun, and a very large laser blaster. Debbie's teammate Paladin managed to salvage most of the A.I. computer system from her ship and transplanted it into a custom modified sports car. Since the computer is programmed with the identity of many of Earth's super-criminals, Debbie can use the equipment in her armor to try and identify an opponent by scanning them and radioing the information back to the computer.
