HISTORY
Rogatta was an archaeologist from a world on the opposite side of the Milky Way galaxy. While excavating some ruins on an alien world he came across a curious artifact, part of what appeared to be an altar. When he touched the altar Rogatta was struck by a surge of power and found himself transformed into a golden skinned being. He was suddenly aware of just what had happened. The ruins had been a colony of New Gods from the planet New Genesis. The altar was part of a shrine used to contact the Source, a powerful energy source for life. In times of need, one of the colony's warriors would be chosen to be a vessel of power and would be transformed just as Rogatta had been. Rogatta took the part of the altar that seemed to be focus of the power and left, he never learned the final fate of the colony.
Rogatta's newfound power gave him the ability to travel unaided through deep space at faster-than-light speeds so he began exploring. During his travels the archaeologist encountered the hero team Justice Inc., who had been exiled into space by the villain Vandal Savage. Rogatta stayed with the group to learn as much as he could about them and their world, and also to help them get back home.
Rogatta was with the team when the wizard Mordru was awakened and stayed with them during their battle with him. After defeating Mordru, Rogatta chose to accompany the rest of Justice Inc. to Earth, anxious to see this new culture. As Rogatta, he was welcomed at New York City's Hudson University and began an exchange of knowledge with the anthropology department there. Using the hero name Goldstar he fought alongside Justice Inc. against many of their foes. Unfortunately, Rogatta's stay on Earth was a brief one, while battling the new H.I.V.E., Goldstar was apparently killed when the villain Hi-Rez destabilized his energy matrix.
While the host, Rogatta, had been killed the power itself was not destroyed. It sought out a new host and bonded with freelance reporter Nicholas Coal. Nick became the new Goldstar and also joined the team. Nick's stint as Goldstar was a short one, though. In another battle with H.I.V.E., Hi-Rez again tried to destroy Goldstar. This time, however, the attack was stopped by former Justice Inc. member Elemental who used his own link to the Source to draw the Goldstar power into himself, saving Nick's life. Nick thought his days as a hero were over and left the team, but time would tell differently.
POWERS & WEAPONS
When Rogatta or Nicholas activated their powers they would transform into an incarnation of a warrior of New Genesis and be infused with power from the Source. Thus transformed, "Goldstar" had control over the fundamental energies of the universe. By manipulating the energy he could exert control over gravity and electromagnetism and even rearrange matter and even create simple energy constructs. Goldstar could also use these energies to fly at near-light speeds and open space warps to allow him to fly faster than light and cross interstellar distances. His ties to the Source gave Goldstar extrasensory powers and links to all life. Because of these links Goldstar had a form of cosmic awareness, allowing him to sense major disturbances to the continuum. He could also sense the presence of other living beings and had the ability to generate life energy to heal someone who was wounded. His awareness also gave him limited empathic and pre- and post-cognitive powers. Goldstar's senses were enhanced allowing him to see over great distances, see into other wavelengths of the electromagnetic spectrum, see through illusions, and detect energy. Goldstar was also able to understand any language. Goldstar was also superhumanly strong and resistant to damage, and could sustain himself on ambient cosmic radiation, requiring neither food or sleep. He could also survive unaided in space and, through the Source could access the memories of all the previous hosts of the Goldstar power.
