FUTURE WORLDS
Time travel has often been a factor in the lives of super-heroes. Here are some of the future times encountered by
various heroes during their adventures.
- Overseer: future where Earth is conquered by a hero gone bad.
- Great Disaster: future where humanity is reduced to savagery and evolved animals rule.
- Knight's Quest: during various time travel adventures the hero Galahad has encountered
several potential future timelines.
OVERSEER'S WORLD
The Overseer's world was an alternate future visited by the hero Headlong.
In this timeline the alien armor worn by the hero Singluarity had
over several years taken over the hero and corrupted him. With his own powers combined with the evolving abilities of
the armor, Singularity began an assault against the other heroes of Earth.
With surprise on his side, Singularity was able to eliminate most opposition quickly and set about conquering the
Earth. Within a few years he had total control and began to refer to himself as the Overseer. Earth became a dystopian
nightmare under the Overseer's iron grip. The only opposition to his rule was a small, disorganized resistance.
It was at this point that Headlong arrived, having been thrown nearly twenty years ahead of his own time due to an
accident with his superspeed powers. Coming up against the Overseer's forces, Headlong escaped with the help of the
future version of the Tarantula, whose present day incarnation had been
Headlong and Singularity's teammate in the original Enforcers of
Justice.
With Headlong's help, the future Tarantula and the Resistance were able to strike back against the Overseer. The
tyrant was overthrown, though the now liberated world was in bad shape. A means was discovered to send Headlong back
to his present, with the hero promising Tarantula he would try to prevent the Overseer from ever coming to be. Back in his
own time, Headlong told Singularity what happened to him in this future and convinces him to abandon his alien armor,
presumably ending the threat that the Overseer will come to be.
This was not the last that was heard from the Overseer's alternate future, however. The future Tarantula would make the
journey back to the present and become the insane Death Spider.
Singularity was killed by a Tarantula from an alternate timeline,
seemingly ending the potential threat of the Overseer. However, Singularity was later resurrected as
Abyss and apparently some remnant of the alien armor remains within him, meaning
that the Overseer may yet one day emerge.
GREAT DISASTER
Earth A.D. (After Disaster) is an alternate future where the planet was been devastated by an event simply known as
the Great Disaster. The exact nature of the disaster is lost to ancient history; it might have been an asteroid strike,
or a global thermonuclear war, or any number of world-shattering natural disasters. Whatever the cause, the Great Disaster
caused civilization to collapse and even changed the face of the world as some continents shattered and new ones emerged
from the oceans.
In the world that emerged after the Great Disaster, humanity is an endangered species. The mutagen known as Cortexin
spread across the globe, causing animals to rapidly evolve in intelligent species. These new beings vie for dominance
while humanity scrambles for survival. The Lion-Men control the west coast of North America, separated from the expanding
Tiger Empire of the East Coast by the Gorilla Communes of Central North America. Intelligent Killer Whales rule the Pacific
Ocean while in Asia the Lion Hordes battle the Mao-Tse-Tigers and the Bear People keep to themselves in their isolated
Siberian state. What had been Central Europe is primarily the domain of the Wolves, while Iberia is Baboon territory and
Eastern Europe is another Gorilla realm.
The future of Earth A.D. is the original home of the present-day heroes Lupin
and Cat. Cat was the crown princess of the Kingdom of Bastia, domain of the
Cat-People and located in northwest Africa in what had once been Egypt; while Lupin had been a Wolf-Man from Europe who
was in service to the Bastian Royal Family. Cat's team Justice Inc. once
briefly visited the alternate future of Earth A.D., after Lupin had come to reveal the amnesiac Cat's true origins.
KNIGHT'S QUEST
When he was struck by a blast of chronal energy during a confrontation with the time villain Extant, the hero Galahad
was thrown into the timestream. His efforts to return to his own time sent him bouncing like a yo-yo between the past and
the future, each jaunt taking him closer to home. The time periods visited by Glahad were:
- Knight Errant: Galahad lands in 5th Century Camelot and meets King Arthur, Merlin, and the Knights
of the Round Table.
- Enter... the Legion: At the end of the 30th Century, Galahad teams with members of the Legion of
Super-Heroes; including Live Wire, Triad, XS, Kinetix, and others; to combat a band of space raiders led by a time
displaced cosmonaut from Galahad's time.
- The Brave & the Bold:: In 971 AD Galahad joins forces with Jon the Viking Prince on a quest for items of power.
- Flash Forward: Galahad lands in the year 2471 and meets the time-traveling second Flash (Barry Allen) and future
Flash John Fox; together they battle Eobard Thawne, the insidious Reverse Flash.
- Heroes and Rogues: In 1591 Galahad and Jon Valor, the Black Pirate, battle the time-displaced villain Chronos.
- Mystery in Space: Galahad appears in the year 2446 where he helps Ace Arn, also known as Ultra the Multi-Alien,
defend Earth against the latest scheme of the Venusian criminal Jal-Rel.
- Give Me Liberty: Traveling next to 1776 Galahad appears in New England during the Revolutionary War and meets
General George Washington himself. Galahad helps Tomahawk and his Rangers and Miss Liberty battle the Thunder-Man, a
would-be conqueror who has built a device that allows him to hurl bolts of electricity and is using his power to help
the British Army.
- Twilight to Dawn: His next hop brings Galahad to the planet Okaara in the year 2176 where he trains with the
Warlords there until he is able to get off-planet where he assists the Space Ranger and the Planeteers led by Tommy
Tomorrow battle a Gordanian threat.
- Wild, Wild West: Galahad meets Jonah Hex in 1875 before traveling to Opal City where he encounters Scalphunter
and the immortal Shade.
- And the War's Desolation: The mid-21st Century is a post-apocalyptic wasteland, the aftermath of a
nuclear war. There Galahad once again encounters Jonah Hex, who had been transported from his own time, and the wasteland
warrior known as OMAC, the One-Man Army Corps. As they explore the wastelands Galahd learns the origin of the nuclear
war, and the truth behind the enigmatic being known as Omega. Vowing to use this
information to thwart Omega's schemes when he returns to his present, Galahad make another jump to try and get home.
- All That Glitters: The final destination of Galahad's journey is the year 1945, where he encounters his former
teammate Patriot, who had been transported back to World War II during the
Crisis in Time known as Zero Hour, and also his old ally Jon the Viking
Prince, who had been frozen in ice over the centuries and emerged in World War II. Together they, alongside several other
Mystery Men of the era, battle Nazi metahumans Axis America, Captain Nazi, and Baron Blitzkrieg. After thwarting a Nazi
plot, Galahad is able to bring Patriot with him on the next jump, which takes the two back to the present a few months
after the confrontation with Extant that had initiated Galahad's trip through time.
