DEMOLITION SQUAD
HISTORY
The Demolition Squad were a team of professional wrestlers working for the Ultimate Wrestling Federation when they were kidnapped by agents of the Crime Cartel during a televised event in Empire City. Crime Cartel scientists used an experimental procedure to give each of the four wrestlers super-powers, and also programmed them to be loyal to the Cartel. The four became one of the Cartel's enforcement teams and, still using their wrestling names, began acting out their masters' orders in Empire City. They were soon defeated and captured by the newly-formed hero team called the Guardians, and later battled the Enforcers of Justice. Each time they are captured, the Cartel usually finds a way to free them as they are a crude, but very effective, team.
The Demolition Squad always operates as a team, and are very effective. The Crime Cartel scientists gave all of them superhuman strength and resistance, plus each one has his own unique abilities. Most recently the Demolition Squad were part of an army of super-villains assembled by the villain Carnage. They were captured when the army was defeated and are back in prison, likely only until the Crime Cartel has need of their services again.
The members of the Demolition Squad are:
- Devastator: Devastator is the leader of the Squad. Like all of them he possesses superhuman strength and resistance to injury. He also has the ability to dramatically increase the level of those powers. At his maximum Devastator can make himself stronger than Superman, or tough enough to survive ground zero of a nuclear detonation. Devastator's one drawback is that he cannot increase both to their maximum at the same. He can increase them both a moderate amount, balancing the two, but if he increases one to maximum the other stays at its normal, though still superhuman, levels.
- Detonator: Detonator is not as strong as Devastator, but is far more destructive. Detonator has the ability to cause inanimate objects to explode. The larger the object, the bigger the explosion. By concentrating, Detonator can also generate spontaneous exlosions powerful enough to demolish a small building.
- Jackhammer: Jackhammer is physically the weakest of the four, though that doesn't mean much when he can still lift several hundred tons with ease. Jackhammer's specialty is the ability to vibrate his arms at a superhuman speed. Combined with his natural toughness this maneuver turns his hands into a literal jackhammer. At full speed Jackhammer can rip through reinforced steel in seconds, and he has learned how to project the force of his vibrating hands outward in a shockwave, which lets him cause destruction at a distance.
- Sledgehammer: In many ways Sledgehammer is the most dangerous of the four. He is the second strongest after Devastator, and is actually tougher than his teammate (until Devastator starts using his power to increase his abilities). Sledgehammer's real asset is the power to re-shape his arms. He usually uses this ability to turn his arms into hammers, maces, or other bludgeoning weapons, but he can also use it to stretch he arms to attack opponents at a distance. He has also been known to re-shape his arms into more functional tools, like an edged weapon to cut, or a crowbar for prying.
